Devon food company launches new Greek saffron tea thanks to Selfridges deal

A UK food and beverage distributor has launched a range of Greek saffron tea products by securing a supplier’s agreement with Selfridges.

Nova Foods Products, which was co-founded by Devon entrepreneur David Howard will manage and distribute the Krocus Kozanis Herbal Tea brand and products nationwide through selected retailers and a newly launched e-commerce site from warehousing facilities in Ivybridge.

Krokos (Krocus, is the English spelling) Kozanis is Greek for saffron and also the inspiration behind the brand name of the tea collection.

Greece is considered one of the leading producers of probably the best organic and non-organic saffron in the world. Greek saffron is blended with various organic herbs to create the premium taste of the teas.

Mr Howard founded his company last August and its warehouse and fulfilment centre is based in Devon.

He said he hoped to hire etween five and 10 people in the coming year as business picks up.

He said: “We believe that the current Krocus Kozanis tea range provides a premium product at a great price to discerning tea consumers who appreciate both the taste and potential health benefits of saffron which have been well-documented.

“We are particularly pleased that the product is now being stocked at Selfridges and we look forward to having the product in more retail outlets throughout the UK in the coming months.”

Angelos Markou, the General Manager of Krocus Kozanis Products SA which produces the rare saffron, said: “I am delighted that our newly appointed UK Distributor, Nova Foods Products, has successfully launched the Krocus Kozanis brand which is now available in selected retail outlets and on the new website.”

He added: “Our herbal tea collection with Greek red saffron, awarded by the International Taste and Quality Institute, is a ‘first’ for the international food and drink market.”
